Sidepipe installation

1965 was the first year for factory installed sidepipes. This was an option called N14 Side Mount Exhaust System and it cost $134.50 extra, this option was selected by only 759 1965 Corvette buyers. So they are quite rare to begin with and when looking to install sidepipes with original style covers on the 1965 I decided not to start looking for set of used pipes and covers but I bought new set of covers with all the hardware from Eckler's.

The quality of these covers is top notch, they fit 100% and aligned great with all the old bolt holes. The actual sidepipes I will fabricate out of stainless steel in 2.5" diameter. I'm going to use spriral style mufflers to put inside the pipes.

Here's few pics of the sidepipe project.

First you'll need to remove the old rockerpanels. Note that you'll need to cut a small sectionof fiberclass for the sidepipes! This piece is interfering with the sidepipe cover where it bends inwards. You'll also need to cut or as I did bend the rocker panel tabs to get enough room for the side pipes.
Once I had the covers firmly inplace I started to mock up the sidepipes in place. I'm using one straight 2.5" pipe with two 90 degree bends in each end. Now I still need to decide on the angle I want the pipe exits to be and the cut end to the right measure.
